About HalfLifeDB

HalfLifeDB is an educational project focused on making drug half-life concepts easier to understand. It provides interactive graphs for simple first-order elimination models together with curated reference pages for individual substances.

The goal is to help people visualize how a substance's amount in the body can change over time based on published pharmacokinetic half-life values. It is not a diagnostic tool and does not estimate impairment, legal fitness to drive, or fitness for medical procedures.

How the calculator works

The calculator assumes a single-compartment, first-order elimination model using a single half-life value. This is a simplification. Many substances have multi-compartment kinetics, active metabolites, or non-linear behavior that are not reflected here.

Because of this, the curves on this site should be treated as approximate visualizations only. Real-world concentrations in blood, urine, and other matrices depend on many factors including dose, route of administration, individual metabolism, liver and kidney function, and drug interactions.
